This itinerary deliberately avoids the Serengeti and Lake Manyara — both are either too far or would mean cutting either park short. Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater are close enough to link in one short trip without sacrificing time in either.
Why this itinerary works
A 2-day Tanzania safari has to be deliberate about which parks it visits, because road distances rule out most combinations. Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater sit close enough together — roughly two and a half hours apart — that both can be covered as genuine full days rather than rushed half-days squeezed around a long drive.
Day one is spent entirely inside Tarangire, home to Tanzania's largest elephant herds and dramatic baobab-studded scenery. You overnight at a lodge or camp on the way to Ngorongoro, then spend day two entirely on the crater floor — a sealed volcanic caldera with one of the highest wildlife densities on the continent, before the transfer back to Moshi or Arusha that evening.
Both parks get a genuine full day of game driving rather than being squeezed around long transfers.

An early pickup from your hotel starts the drive to Tarangire, arriving in time for a full day of game driving. Tarangire holds Tanzania's largest elephant herds, especially through the dry season, alongside ancient baobab trees and strong predator sightings along the river.
Your guide collects you in a 4x4 safari vehicle for the drive to Tarangire's gate.
